What is Derma Planing?

Derma planning is a type of skin treatment that is receiving increased popularity because of its effectiveness. Derma planing removes the outer most layers of dead skin cells, leaving the skin immediately smooth, supple and vibrant. Derma planing is safely performed by using a blade (a sterile surgical blade).  This blade is held against the skin at an angle of 45 degrees and stroked along the surface, just like shaving.  However, the practitioner is doing the stroking while holding the area of skin taut.

Derma planing is a safe procedure as long as it is done by a professional who has adequate training. The process is as safe as a man shaving his face before work in the morning. There is a slight risk of bleeding as with all forms of shaving, but damage to the skin doesn’t consist of anything more than slight nics. And of course, this procedure should only be done by a professional who has been trained to blade without causing any harm.

Many people believe that hair grows in thicker after it has been shaved, but this is just a myth. It is physiologically impossible for hair to grow back thicker after being cut. The reason that hair feels thicker is that the tip of the hair changes texture when cut. This does not mean that the physical structure of the hair has changed, just a surface characteristic. Waxing often produces the opposite result because of the hair being pulled from the root.

1.       If you forgot to put sunscreen on before your last sunbathing session, wait to wax. A wax with a sunburn is about as fun as it sounds. Better yet, visit us for body bronzing so you can rock a tan minus the burn.

2.       Avoid caffeine the day of your wax. It can make you jittery and heighten your sensitivity.

3.       Take an aspirin before your wax to help manage any pain you might experience.

4.       Relax! Seriously, just take a deep breath and it will be over before you know it.

Preparing for the Grand Reopening of the Del Mar Highlands Town Center!

The premier community shopping center is located in Carmel Valley, just 20 miles north of downtown San Diego, and is hosting its grand reopening celebration Friday and Saturday, September 9^th and 10^th.

The $20 million renovation began in 2010 and includes seven new restaurants, a luxury movie theatre and more. Brazilia Skincare has remained open during the renovations, but we are thrilled to benefit from the center’s improved parking and traffic flows.

Get Tan the Healthy Way

In San Diego, it’s fashionable to be tan year-round, but everyone knows that tanning beds are not the healthy way to get glowing. Stop by our La Jolla or Del Mar locations for a body bronzing treatment and read our SPF rules below!

1.       You’re already going to be putting on makeup, lotion and other products, so why not choose products with SPF built-in? It’s a no-brainer!

2.       If you’re going to be spending the day at the beach, you’ll have to ramp up your sunscreen! Pick SPF 30 with UVA and UVB protection.

3.       Reapply and then reapply again! How often should you reapply? Every two hours. Even if the label says the coverage lasts all day, you still need to reapply!

They take an hour to apply and we offer one free touch-up within the first month, and free removal. Each time you get a new set, the lashes are removed and a fresh, new set is applied.

Luscious Lashes are natural and weightless, so they look and feel like real lashes. They are also resistant to water so they will stay put whether you are swimming, showering, sleeping, sweating or crying. They are ideal for special occasions (it’s still wedding season, after all), and make the perfect gift!

We also offer individual lashes, which take two hours to apply. For $200, they last around 2 months (including a touch-up every 3-4 weeks). Touch up costs $75/hour and if needed, removal is $25. We also offer faux mink lashes so request these softer, more natural lashes.
